We drove to Silverton starting Wednesday morning, July 26, 2006.
We followed BIL pulling his trailer most of the trip. It was a fairly hot day, so the cat is panting! Click on either thumbnail to see all the small pictures of going to Silverton, including the children at one stop, throwing rocks into a creek.
It was a warm day, so we started by taking the top off the Tracker. The ghost-mines were interesting!
Black Bear is a difficult trail, and only one way. I have a panorama view
from the top of the pass. There are many switchbacks down into Telluride. And
the Bridal Veil Falls, with the power plant is beautiful.
Then lunch in Telluride was fun! How many Oreos can you put in your mouth? We
have fun and fellowship during lunch, as well as on the CB on the trails.
The last trail, Imogene pass, took us through the Tom Boy town and mine, back to Ouray.
Our tenth wedding anniversary was July 27, 2006. On Saturday, so we had time to plan
and everyone would be there, we renewed our vows at Animas Forks, an 1880's
mining town now ghost town being restored. We stood in a mostly gone building as
our 'church' with friends and family.
There are beautiful
vistas over the Alpine Loop from Animas Forks to the ore processing plant where
we had lunch all the way to Ouray again, where we had dinner before returning to
camp.
We saw some
wildlife along the way, including one deer with a tracking collar and marmots.
There was other wildlife too elusive to photograph, including deer jumping out
on the highway at night and a fox, only seen by the leader before it
disappeared.
Once back at camp,
in the dusk, almost dark, the children showed me the waterfall just a short,
wet, walk away. It really was too dark to take photos, but some of them are
interesting of the waterfall and children.
Missy played
guitar while we all sang praise songs. Richard gave a devotional/sermon about
needing to remember God in all things, and how easily we all are distracted. And
Ken and I took pictures. After our fellowship we left for home, and stopped in
Montrose for lunch. It was a long drive home.
