Four-wheeling in the San Juan Mountains - July 2006

We drove to Silverton starting Wednesday morning, July 26, 2006.

Following Bill's trailer on the highway Even the cat was hot, panting away

We followed BIL pulling his trailer most of the trip. It was a fairly hot day, so the cat is panting! Click on either thumbnail to see all the small pictures of going to Silverton, including the children at one stop, throwing rocks into a creek.

The first day of four-wheeling we toured mining ruins near Red Mountain Pass.

Jonathan helps take the hard-top off the Tracker before we go four-wheeling We visited many mining ruins, some buildings still standing Mining equipment was heavy and now broken and exposed to the elements

It was a warm day, so we started by taking the top off the Tracker. The ghost-mines were interesting!

The second day of four-wheeling we started with Black Bear Road. It is always interesting. Then we had lunch in Telluride. We returned to Ouray for dinner over Ima Jean.

Black Bear Road on the easy side towards the topBlack Bear is a difficult trail, and only one way. I have a panorama view from the top of the pass. There are many switchbacks down into Telluride. And the Bridal Veil Falls, with the power plant is beautiful.

Lunch is always fun, especially with Oreos Then lunch in Telluride was fun! How many Oreos can you put in your mouth? We have fun and fellowship during lunch, as well as on the CB on the trails.

I hiked up, and looked down on the vehicles gathered at another stop

The last trail, Imogene pass, took us through the Tom Boy town and mine, back to Ouray.

The third day of four-wheeling started with our renewal of vows at Animas Forks then over the Alpine Loop.

We held hands as we renewed our vows - til death us do partOur tenth wedding anniversary was July 27, 2006. On Saturday, so we had time to plan and everyone would be there, we renewed our vows at Animas Forks, an 1880's mining town now ghost town being restored. We stood in a mostly gone building as our 'church' with friends and family.

Mountains, clouds, beautyThere are beautiful vistas over the Alpine Loop from Animas Forks to the ore processing plant where we had lunch all the way to Ouray again, where we had dinner before returning to camp.

A shy doe with a tracking collarWe saw some wildlife along the way, including one deer with a tracking collar and marmots. There was other wildlife too elusive to photograph, including deer jumping out on the highway at night and a fox, only seen by the leader before it disappeared.

Blue waterfall in the dusk after sunsetOnce back at camp, in the dusk, almost dark, the children showed me the waterfall just a short, wet, walk away. It really was too dark to take photos, but some of them are interesting of the waterfall and children.

Sunday we packed up and had a worship service at a park in Ouray.

Gathering at a picnic table, singing worship songs full of thanks and praise to GodMissy played guitar while we all sang praise songs. Richard gave a devotional/sermon about needing to remember God in all things, and how easily we all are distracted. And Ken and I took pictures. After our fellowship we left for home, and stopped in Montrose for lunch. It was a long drive home.

I have many photos of flowers, with most of them identified. We saw others that I didn't have an opportunity to photograph. This page of flowers is very large because the photos are not thumbnails, and there are many of them.

Meadow of flowers, bright green with purple Larkspur and yellow flowers as well as Mountain Bluebells
